90° Elbow VS. Straight M12 Connectors: How to Choose?

In industrial automation, robotics, sensors, and other fields, M12 connectors are indispensable "little experts". But when faced with two forms—90° elbow and straight—how should you choose?

✨ Core Differences Between the Two

1.Straight type:
The cable is coaxial with the plug, requiring only axial space for plugging and unplugging. It is suitable for high-density, long-life scenarios. For example, in PLC control cabinets where a row of interfaces needs to be arranged in a straight line, straight connectors fit perfectly, saving space and facilitating plugging/unplugging.

2.90° elbow type:
The cable is perpendicular to the axis of the plug, allowing the cable to be routed "along the wall". It is especially suitable for scenarios with limited space or special motion requirements, such as robot joints and rotating platforms. Elbow connectors can avoid interference between cables and mechanical components, reduce bending stress on cables, and extend service life.

✨ Key Selection Points

1.Check the space:

If there is sufficient space inside the equipment and interfaces can be arranged in a straight line, prioritize straight connectors.

If the internal space of the equipment is narrow, especially with height restrictions (e.g., chassis height less than 20mm), or there are obstacles on the side of the interface, 90° elbow connectors are a better choice.

2.Check dynamics:

If the interface is in a position with frequent movement (such as robotic arm joints, rotating platforms), 90° elbow connectors can better adapt to the motion, preventing cables from being damaged due to frequent bending.

If the interface is mainly used for fixed equipment and requires frequent plugging/unplugging (such as debugging interfaces), straight connectors will be more convenient.

3.Check maintenance:

If the interface needs to be plugged and unplugged frequently (more than 10 times a day), it is recommended to choose straight connectors, paired with push-pull locking, which improves plugging efficiency and ensures a longer service life.
